Report - 08/30/2007

First real observing session using Bushnell 8x50 binoculars. Made specific point of trying to
familiarize myself with the night sky.  Observed alone to start, and was later joined by Janessa.

Identified the following:

• Casseopeia
• Big Dipper (which was partially hidden by the tree line)
• Little Dipper (easier once Big Dipper climbed a little above the tree line)
• Tried to trace Draco, but couldn't find his head
• I think I may have found Coma Berenices, when I was looking for Leo, but I have no real way of confirming
• saw a pattern that looked like orion, but after further research it turns out it isn't. Don't know what it was, but it was a pointer to a strange pattern (see above), north-west. I would like to know what it is.
